THE BOURBON TRAIL
When you stay at Elkhorn Creek RV Park, you’ll have one of Kentucky's premier attractions right outside your RV door—the Bourbon Trail.
This bourbon-based attraction is not a physical ‘trail’ that you walk through the forest on, but a chain of local distilleries expanding from Lexington to Louisville, encompassing everything in between. Frankfort and Elkhorn Creek RV Park rest comfortably in between these most storied and popular brands of bourbon.
We’ll highlight our favorite Frankfort distilleries on the trail, and take you outside the city limits for other popular options that all of our guests should visit!
Buffalo Trace Distillery
Address: 113 Great Buffalo Trace, Frankfort, KY
Hours
Mon - Sat: 9AM - 5PM
Sun: 11AM - 5PM
Tours
Buffalo Trace Distillery is a historic building that offers tours of the brewing process, a background on the people who created the distillery and the exceptional pappy bourbon, and a gift shop where you can buy their liquor!
Samples of drinks are offered on the tour, and you’ll also have an opportunity to mix your own brewery concoction. The massive brewery grounds hide plenty of historical secrets waiting for you to discover them—in between sips, of course.
If there is one headliner attraction we think you need to visit on the trail, it would have to be this one! Cheers!
Castle and Key Distillery
Address: 4445 McCracken Pike, Frankfort, KY

Another gorgeous distillery lies in the Kentucky forests. When you see the medieval stone castle, you’ll know that you’ve arrived. The hour-long tour of this impressive distillery will give you an insider look into the history and process of making spirits, beer, and other fine drinks.
You can also wander the gardens for a more quiet, natural experience to contrast the machinery you’ll see.
Woodford Reserve Distillery

Mon - Sat: 9AM - 5PM
Sun: 12PM - 4:30PM
This fine distillery will transport you back to the 1800s with its impressive history. However, if you want to cut the history out and just focus on taste, the tasting experiences here are unlike any other!
For those with money burning a hole in their pocket, the VIP Master Distiller Tour is a fun way to experience everything Woodford has to offer.

Wild Turkey Bourbon
Address: 1525 Tyrone Rd, Lawrenceburg, KY
Hours

Wild Turkey isn’t just a place to drink, but it’s a place to experience lovely architecture. The gift shop here has bottles of their finest liquor, which you can learn more about on their tour. One of our favorite flavors of bourbon there is called American Honey Sting—a sweeter drink with a spicy kick.
Jeptha Creek Distillery
Address: 500 Gordon Ln, Shelbyville, KY

Thurs - Sat: 11AM - 6PM
Sun: 12PM - 5PM
Some distilleries feel fancy, others feel more structured, but Jeptha Creed Distillery is where you go when you want to relax. Surrounded by nature, you can take your drink on the grounds and soak in the sun. The bar and Creed Cafe make for a lovely meal during your vacation experience.
Looking for more drinks? If these distilleries haven’t satisfied you, you should check out the official Kentucky Bourbon Trail website for more information. If you want to stay somewhere that is in a convenient location no matter what city you visit, Elkhorn Creek is the place for you!
